In 2020 during the pandemic, Ellie King chanced upon an old journal — or rather four hand-tooled leather journals — bound together with a cord. The journals had an author name –Holly Rengsdorf. They were dated 1967, and what Ellie found was mind-blowing.
Inside was a staggering tale of ghostly apparitions and the murder of young girls. Among her neighbors and friends, 17 year old Holly was the one-off. No one in their right mind believed what Holly warned them about…
That is — until —
Location: San Francisco
Time Stamp: The Summer of Love
The year is 1967 and the Summer of Love is set to explode. Teen Holly Rengsdorf and her friends, Tim, Cory and Keenie are smack in the heart of it, living in a wealthy enclave just south of San Francisco. But according to the journal here are where things go violently off the rails. A nearby wooded area, known for its friendly apparitions, becomes increasingly sinister, a couple of chicks get murdered and a dude from their high school may have some connection. Oh, and their best friend, with the aura of an angel, may or may not be a witch.
Shortly before the pandemic, in 2019, I was rummaging through collectibles at a garage sale and came upon four leather-bound journals wrapped with cord. The first entry was dated April 1967 and was written by a girl named Holly. Flipping through, it seemed to be repeating some sort of convoluted freaky tale. On a whim, I bought the entire set for $5 and was flabbergasted by the time I finished.
I spent time attempting to verify elements of the story, as well as its participants, with limited results on both fronts. It’s a crazy tale that I’ve now decided to publish, with some minor editing, as well as a few name changes for liability protection. Sgt Pepper may have hit the airwaves and an hallucinogenic fervor might have been promising the Age of Aquarius, but this account, if even partly true, turns all that completely on its head.
